Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI was hit with multiple lawsuits Wednesday alleging that the AI company could have done more to help prevent a school shooting earlier this year in Canada by informing law enforcement of the suspected killer's activity on ChatGPT, according to media reports.

The new lawsuits were filed in San Francisco federal court by teachers, students and a principal who were present during the February shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia. They follow complaints filed in April by the families of seven victims injured or killed in the incident, the reports said.

The new lawsuits make similar claims to the April complaints regarding OpenAI's role. They also alleged that OpenAI's global affairs team overrode its safety team's recommendation to alert law enforcement about the account, the reports said.

OpenAI did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
