Gold Falls Over 1%; American Outdoor Brands Shares Jump After Q1 Results

U.S. stocks traded lower midway through trading, with the Nasdaq Composite falling over 100 points on Friday.

The Dow traded down 0.56% to 53,386.54 while the NASDAQ dipped 0.44% to 26,468.00. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.43% to 7,714.25.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Industrials shares jumped by 0.3% on Friday.

In trading on Friday, consumer discretionary stocks fell by 1.7%.

Top Headline

The U.S. economy created 162,000 jobs in August, sharply beating estimates of 56,000 and pointing to strengthening labor market conditions.

The unemployment rate held at 4.1%, matching expectations. Average hourly earnings rose 0.3% month-over-month, matching forecasts, taking the annual pace to 3.1% from 3.2% in July.

Equities Trading UP           

  • Immuron Ltd – ADR (NASDAQ:IMRN) shares shot up 50% to $1.67 after the company announced an exclusive US distribution agreement for PROIBS with Calmino group.
  • Shares of Quanex Building Products Corp (NYSE:NX) got a boost, surging 23% to $23.08 following upbeat quarterly earnings.
  • American Outdoor Brands Inc (NASDAQ:AOUT) shares were also up, gaining 42% to $14.20 after the company announced better-than-expected first-quarter fiscal 2027 results.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Guidewire Software Inc (NYSE:GWRE) shares dropped 21% to $160.89 after the company issued first-quarter sales guidance below estimates.
  • Shares of Lululemon Athletica Inc (NASDAQ:LULU) were down 18% to $100.20 after the company reported mixed second-quarter financial results and lowered its FY26 guidance below analyst estimates.
  • UiPath Inc (NYSE:PATH) was down, falling 16% to $15.24 following second-quarter results.

CommoditiesIn commodity news, oil traded down 0.5% to $90.88 while gold traded down 1.2% at $4,484.60.

Silver traded down 1.4% to $66.76 on Friday, while copper rose 0.2% to $6.6795.

Euro zone

European shares were mixed today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 rose 0.12%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index rose 0.25%, London’s FTSE 100 slipped 0.01%, Germany’s DAX gained 0.17%, while France’s CAC 40 fell 0.09%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed mostly higher on Friday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 gaining 1.26%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index jumping 1.74%, China’s Shanghai Composite falling 0.30% and India’s BSE Sensex gaining 0.48%.
