Market Chatter: Chinese AI Chip Makers Raise Prices Amid High-Bandwidth Memory Shortage

Chinese artificial intelligence chip manufacturers increased their prices for current and next-generation processors, Reuters reported Thursday, citing three people familiar with the matter.

Huawei raised prices of its Ascend 950DT accelerator card by up to 50% to more than 250,000 yuan, while Cambricon Technologies (SHA:688256) repriced its next-generation 690 chip up to 30% from two months ago, the report said, citing two of the sources. Other players, such as MetaX and Iluvatar CoreX, increased their prices as well.

The price increases signal the impact of a worldwide shortage of high-bandwidth memory as Beijing pressures companies to compete with Nvidia, Reuters reported.

Huawei, MetaX, and Iluvatar CoreX did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires. Cambricon was not immediately available for comment.
