MasterCraft Boat logged a more than 60% jump in sales during the fiscal fourth quarter, primarily thanks to its recent acquisition of Marine Products.

The powerboats maker on Thursday swung to a loss of $7.08 million, or 35 cents a share, from a profit of $5.7 million, or 35 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were 67 cents, ahead of the 62 cents anticipated by analysts, according to FactSet.

Sales rose 63% to $129.9 million. Analysts surveyed by FactSet forecast revenue of $93.1 million.

MasterCraft completed its merger with Marine Products in May, which resulted in an incremental sales recognition of $33.3 million within the company's recreation and sport fishing segment. Excluding that bump, sales would have increased about 22%.

Sales were also boosted by higher unit volumes and prices, as well as lower dealer incentives.

The company recorded a $10.1 million non-cash impairment charge in its leisure segment, along with $11 million in costs related to the Marine Products deal. Together, those costs had a significant impact on both the quarter and the full year, MasterCraft said.

The gross margin decreased due to a $2.6 million inventory step-up charge related to the Marine Products deal.

MasterCraft expects sales for the six months from July to December to be $287 million to $291 million. Adjusted earnings per share are projected to be 66 cents to 76 cents.

For the current first quarter, the company anticipates $147 million in sales and 40 cents a share in adjusted earnings. Analysts were guiding for $76.3 million in revenue and 36 cents a share in adjusted earnings.
