Waymo, Nihon Kotsu, Go Team Up for Autonomous Ride-Hailing Service in Tokyo; Go Shares Up 9%

U.S.-based autonomous driving technology company Waymo has partnered with Japanese taxi operator Nihon Kotsu and taxi-hailing app Go (TYO:581A) to launch an unmanned ride-hailing service in Tokyo in 2027, according to a Monday release.

The service will be available in both the Go and Waymo apps, with a planned expansion to about 100 vehicles across the city.

The project's timeline is subject to regulatory approval from national and local authorities as well as the completion of ongoing validation of Waymo's technology and the joint operations.

Waymo is a subsidiary of Google's parent company Alphabet.

Shares of Go rose 9% in recent trade.
