U.S. Futures, European Stocks Down as Oil Gains and Bond Yields Rise

U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.4% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.5%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 declined 0.6% in morning trading. Acciona rose 3.8% and Hemnet Group rose 3.4%. On the other hand, Lanxess sunk 5.9%, and Temenos slipped 3.9%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.6%. Other stocks in Europe were down as France's CAC 40 decreased 0.6% and Germany's DAX dropped 0.5%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index climbed 0.1% to 95.59.

In commodities, Brent crude gained 1.6% to $107.36 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 1.7% to $103.16 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was down 0.4% to 82.21 euros a megawatt hour.

The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 3 basis points to 3.565% from 3.533%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury climbed by 4 basis points to 5.032% from 4.988%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan's Nikkei 225 index was flat, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 1%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite declined 0.5%.
