The ANZ-Roy Morgan Australian consumer confidence rose 2 points to 73.9 in the week of Sept. 7 to Sept. 13, ANZ reported Tuesday.

The four-week moving average fell 0.6 points to 74.6, per the report.

Australian consumer confidence improved last week but remained well below the neutral level, as concerns over household finances, inflation, higher interest rates and global uncertainty continued to weigh on sentiment, according to ANZ economist Sophia Angala.

Rising concern over further Reserve Bank of Australia rate hikes weighed on mortgage-holder confidence last week, even as confidence improved among outright homeowners and renters, Angala added.

Weekly inflation expectations fell to 5.9% from 6.3%, while the current financial condition indicator for 12 months rose 6 points to 66.5. The future financial conditions for the next 12 months increased to 83.4 points from 81.

Short-term economic confidence for the next year rose 0.9 points to 66.6, while medium-term economic confidence for the next five years increased to 77.6 points from 77.4.

The "time to buy a major household item" subcategory rose 0.4 points to 75.5.
