Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google has agreed to back a carbon removal project in Brazil led by developer Terradot, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing a Google executive.

The project is designed to decrease methane emissions from rice farming and capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the report said, quoting Google Head of Carbon Removal Randy Spock.

The project covers over 200,000 hectares in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the report said, adding tech giants have been under pressure to boost carbon removal projects to offset emissions from AI data centers.

Google didn't immediately respond to a request for comment by MT Newswires.
