The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) voted to institute an investigation into certain electronic devices with certain audio technologies, naming Apple, Samsung Electronics, Suwon-si, Ridgefield Park, and Google as respondents.

The probe is based on a complaint filed on behalf of BoomCloud 360 Inc. of Encinitas, California, on Aug. 14, with a supplement filed on Aug. 31, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation and sale in the U.S. of certain electronic devices with certain audio technologies that infringe certain claims of the complainant's patents, which seeks a limited exclusion order and cease-and-desist orders.

By instituting this investigation, the USITC has not yet made any decision on the merits of the case, and the Chief Administrative Law Judge will assign the case to an administrative law judge who will schedule and hold an evidentiary hearing.

Samsung, Apple, and Google did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
