London's FTSE 100 Rises After Bank of England Holds Rates

Dow Jones
09/17

1148 GMT - London's FTSE 100 rises following the Bank of England's decision to keep its key interest rate unchanged. The blue-chip index rises sharply on the decision, climbing by around 0.4% in the 15 minutes following the announcement. London-listed banks, industrial groups and consumer-facing stocks all rise. The central bank also paused auctions of U.K. government bonds it owns, limiting supply of longer-dated gilts and potentially easing upward pressure on borrowing costs in the country, says Principal Asset Management's Anthony Brinkman. The index is up 0.5% for the day. The FTSE 250, the U.K.'s more domestic-focused index, trades up 0.8%.
