Stellantis (STLA) and its unionized Canadian workers should resume labor talks, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing Canadian Industry Minister Melanie Joly.

Joly told reporters in Ottawa the two sides need to return to the table, calling the government a trustworthy partner in reaching a deal, the report said.

A collective agreement between Stellantis and Unifor, representing about 9,000 workers, expires Sunday, with strike action remaining a possibility, according to Unifor President Lana Payne, the report added.

Joly said the government did not participate in talks between Stellantis and Roshel, which is seeking to buy an idled Stellantis plant near Toronto, and reiterated the plant must reopen or the government will seek repayment of prior financial assistance, Bloomberg reported.

Stellantis did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
