Market Chatter: US Drafting Rules on Pharmaceutical Licensing Deals With China

The US Treasury Department is drafting rules that could allow pharmaceutical companies to enter into licensing agreements for Chinese drugs that do not involve pathogens or potential bio-weapons, Reuters reported Friday, citing people briefed on the process.

Pfizer (PFE) and other pharmaceutical companies have met with Trump administration officials in recent months to advocate against broad restrictions on investments in Chinese drug development, the report said.

The guidelines have not been finalized and could change before an upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Reuters said.

The US Treasury Department, the White House, and Pfizer did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
