Union Pacific (UNP) and Norfolk Southern (NSC) said Tuesday that the Surface Transportation Board has denied requests to dismiss the companies' revised merger application.

Additionally, the merger has support from a majority of unions representing Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern employees, with the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation's Railroad Mechanical Department signing a jobs-for-life agreement with the railroads, according to a statement.

The companies said the merger remains subject to Surface Transportation Board's review and approval, with the transaction expected to be completed in H2 of 2027.
