President Donald Trump has rejected calls to impose new regulations on the development of artificial intelligence, saying US authorities will be able to rein in the sector if needed, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, Trump also said that US government documents will start using the term "super intelligence" moving forward instead of artificial intelligence, Reuters reported.

Earlier in the month, Anthropic Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei called for slowing the pace at which the industry advances AI model capabilities, citing risks of losing control, the misuse of AI for cyberattacks and bioterrorism, and serious economic disruption. OpenAI, in a blog post Monday, said the US should lead an effort with other countries to set international technical standards for AI.
