Tesla (TSLA) is facing a California civil rights trial over allegations that Black workers at its Fremont assembly plant experienced racial harassment and discrimination, with proceedings beginning today, Reuters reported.

The trial is scheduled to run until Oct. 30, according to the report.

The report added that Superior Court Judge Peter Borkon, who will decide the case without a jury, has scheduled a bench trial and will decide whether the company bears liability for violating California's civil rights laws.

The case, first filed in February 2022, alleges Tesla discriminated against Black and/or African American workers in job assignments, compensation, discipline, promotion, and termination, according to the California Civil Rights Department.

Tesla and the California Civil Rights Department did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
