Qantas Airways' (ASX:QAN) Jetstar will extend its Sunshine Coast to Cairns service through to October 2027, maintaining the only direct air link between the two Queensland destinations, according to a Wednesday statement by Jetstar.

The airline said the seasonal service was previously due to end in March 2027, with the extension reflecting steady demand in both directions and adding more than 34,000 seats.

Qantas' shares rose 2% in recent Wednesday trade.
