Hong Kong Stocks Edge Up at Open as Investors Assess Oil, Rate Risks

Hong Kong stocks opened slightly higher on Monday as investors weighed rising oil prices and expectations for further interest-rate increases amid continued uncertainty over U.S.-Iran talks.

The Hang Seng Index edged up 0.2%, or 44.49 points, to open at 24,554.58, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 0.4%, or 29.65 points, to 8,195.43.

Higher energy and diesel prices have raised concerns over more persistent inflation, increasing pressure on central banks to keep interest rates elevated.

Markets priced a 66% chance of another Federal Reserve rate hike in October.

Investors were also bracing for a busy week of U.S. economic data, including inflation, GDP, manufacturing and jobs figures, with the September payrolls report due Friday.
