Artificial-intelligence safety fears are back and it's not just words this time.

OpenAI said it has halted the training of its latest AI models. It follows more incidents of AI agents going rogue.

The company said it will resume training "only when we are confident that we have additional safeguards," in place, the Associated Press reported.

AI stocks were taking a hit to start the week, as chip maker Intel, memory storage company Sandisk, and optical networking supplier Marvell were all down more than 3%.

However, the premarket losses weren't as heavy as two Monday ago when OpenAI's Sam Altman, Anthropic's Dario Amodei and SpaceX's Elon Musk called for a global slowdown in development.

"There is an extensive and ongoing review related to our agents' use of internet access during training and evaluation," Altman said in a post on X Friday.

OpenAI did not immediately respond for a request for comment.
