All three major US stock indexes rose in late-morning trading Friday as traders evaluated the jobs report for September.
The report showed nonfarm payrolls rose by 29,000, well below the 90,000 jobs increase expected in a survey compiled by Bloomberg. The unemployment rate rose to 4.2% in September from 4.1% in August, compared with no change expected.
In company news, Nvidia's (NVDA) DGX Spark personal AI computer will be offered in a new 64-gigabyte unified-memory configuration from Acer, Asus, Dell (DELL), Gigabyte, HP (HPQ) and MSI starting Oct. 23, the company said. Shares of Nvidia rose 2.2%, Dell was up 4%, and HP gained 0.4% in the session.
Nike (NKE) shed nearly 6% after the company said it expects fiscal 2027 adjusted earnings per share of $1.15 to $1.35. Analysts expect $1.68. Fiscal 2027 revenue is expected to decline by high-single digits, the company added.
Ford Motor (F) reported that its Q3 vehicle sales in the US fell 6.6% year over year to 509,764, which it attributed to the phaseout of its Escape and Corsair models as well as the impact of a short-term supplier issue. The company's shares were down 2.2%.
KKR (KKR), Blackstone (BX) and Warburg Pincus are mulling offers for vehicle glass repair company Cary Group, which is owned by CVC Capital Partners and Nordic Capital, Bloomberg reported. The news outlet reported in March that Cary could be valued at 3 billion euros ($3.38 billion). KKR dipped 0.1% and Blackstone was up 0.9%.
Paramount Skydance (PSKY) plans to change its name to Skydance Corporation, effective Tuesday, and its Class B share ticker to "SKYD" from "PSKY," the company said in a regulatory filing. Shares of Paramount Skydance rose 0.6% in the session.
In world news, the Group of Seven nations have agreed to implement a coordinated release of 100 million barrels of diesel and other oil reserves through the International Energy Agency, starting immediately and over four months, in a bid to stabilize energy supplies, according to a statement posted on the website of French President Emmanuel Macron.
