Aroa Biosurgery (ASX:ARX) said a randomized controlled trial of its Symphony skin substitute showed that adding the product to standard of care "substantially improved" healing outcomes for diabetic foot ulcers, according to a Monday filing with the Australian bourse.

The study enrolled 143 patients across 10 US sites, finding that 55% of diabetic foot ulcers in the Symphony arm achieved complete wound closure within 12 weeks with a mean time to complete wound closure of 65.4 days, per the filing.

In contrast, just 35% of diabetic foot ulcers in the standard of care-only arm achieved complete wound closure within 12 weeks with a higher mean time to complete wound closure of 73.2 days.

The results, which were recently published in the International Wound Journal, are expected to support product differentiation, clinical adoption, and evolving US reimbursement requirements, Aroa Biosurgery said.

The company's shares rose 6% in recent Monday trade.
