IonQ (IONQ) has achieved entanglement rates above 1,000 per second, or 1 kilohertz, between a trapped ion qubit and a solid-state memory, through a photonic interconnect, which is fast enough to support distributed quantum computing and other use cases, the company said Friday.

The achievement demonstrates the fastest quantum interconnect rate between qubits of any platform and addresses a critical interconnect bottleneck, according to a statement.
