Amazon.com (AMZN) partner Anthropic is in talks with NTT to build a $6.3 billion data center in Japan, targeting a 2028 opening, Nikkei reported on Tuesday, citing anonymous sources.
The AI-developer Anthropic may sign a deal by March with NTT to construct the dedicated data center in the Osaka prefecture, with a 500 megawatt power intake capacity, making it one of the largest centers in Japan.
Providing electrical power could be a hurdle for the Anthropic center, and project planners will consider alternatives to grid electricity, including on-site generation and fuel cells.
Representatives from Anthropic and NTT did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
