Equities fell last week as jitters around the artificial-intelligence trade dragged down the Nasdaq Composite index and in particular semiconductor stocks. The Nasdaq sank 4.5%, while the VanEck Semiconductor exchange-traded-fund ended Friday on a nine-day losing streak, down 10.5% on the week, the largest weekly drop since April 2025. The S&P 500 declined 1.9% on the week.

Hyperscalers earnings this week could revive the chip stock trade, if the big spenders continue to increase their monetary commitments to the data-center buildout. Meta Platforms will report earnings on Wednesday, one of about 70 S&P 500 companies set to do so this week.

Also announcing earnings this week will be GE Aerospace and General Motors on Tuesday, followed by AT&T, IBM, and Tesla on Wednesday. Lockheed Martin and Procter & Gamble will release their results on Thursday, and American Express will close out the week on Friday.

It's a light week for economic data, with the Census Bureau reporting residential construction data on Tuesday and S&P Global releasing both its Manufacturing and Services Purchasing Managers' Indexes on Friday.
