FAQs

What is margin trading?

Margin trading refers to using cash or securities as collateral to borrow funds from brokers to buy more securities (margin financing) or borrowing securities to sell, repurchase, and return them by a specified period (securities lending), with interest due in both cases.

How to check margin ratios?

Go to the stock's Details Page and click the "Margin Trading Indicator." Long positions usually have margin ratios of 20%-100%, with lower ratios meaning higher leverage (e.g., 20% = 5x leverage).

What are initial margin and maintenance margin in margin trading?

In margin trading, the initial margin is the minimum collateral needed to open a leveraged position; if account equity falls below this level, new positions can't be opened. The maintenance margin is the minimum collateral required to keep an open position; if account equity drops below this, investors must add more funds to avoid forced liquidation.

Which asset classes are available for margin trading on Tiger Brokers (HK)?

Tiger Brokers (HK) supports margin trading for part of the stocks, ETFs, options and futures in the US and Hong Kong markets.
