On August 20, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for BOE's Materials Research Institute project was successfully held in the Bajiao Area of the Yellow and Bohai Sea New District, Yantai City, Shandong Province. As BOE's first materials research and development institution, the establishment of Yantai BOE Materials Research Institute represents a milestone achievement. It not only marks BOE's strategic deployment in achieving high-quality and resilient supply of upstream materials for semiconductor displays under the guidance of its "Screen of Things" strategy, but also injects strong momentum into China's new materials industry innovation breakthrough and the continuous upgrade of the display industry.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, BOE Chairman Chen Yanshun, Chief Operating Officer Wang Xiping, and other group leaders attended the event, joined by numerous industry experts, scholars, and partners to witness this significant moment.

During the ceremony, BOE Chairman Chen Yanshun stated in his address that the new materials industry is a strategic and fundamental industry, a key area of high-tech competition, and an important engine driving modern industrial upgrading. The Yantai BOE Materials Research Institute represents a crucial step in BOE's deployment of next-generation materials technology. It will serve as our frontier laboratory for exploring innovations in semiconductor display-related materials and become a key converter bridging basic research and industrial applications. In the future, BOE will collaborate with elite enterprises, industry partners, and research institutions both locally and globally, breaking innovation barriers through joint technology research and accelerating innovation through resource complementarity, jointly building a solid material foundation for the continuous iterative upgrade of the display industry.

According to reports, the Yantai BOE Materials Research Institute covers an area of 33,000 square meters with a total construction area of 55,000 square meters. It is planned to integrate a research and development center, advanced testing and analysis platform, administrative offices, and comprehensive living facilities, and is expected to be operational by the end of 2026. The institute aims to build four major technology platforms based on AI: automated synthesis, fully automated analysis and testing, intellectual property, and materials verification, committed to constructing an industry-leading fully automated materials research and development and industrialization closed-loop system, achieving efficient, precise, and commercial material development.

BOE deeply recognizes that material innovation is an important driving force for high-quality industrial development. As a leading display company, it must fully play its leading and demonstrative role. Currently, BOE has established deep cooperation with excellent material companies such as Wanrun and Debang Technology, aiming to accelerate the transformation process of advanced materials from laboratory research and development to market applications through technology sharing and resource complementarity.

With the completion of the materials research institute project, it will continue to attract top global talent and high-quality resources, driving the entire industry into the fast track of high-quality innovation and development, contributing to the progress of China's basic industries. Looking toward the future, BOE will actively promote the construction of the industry's "Nth curve" development and continuously stimulate the vitality of the industrial ecosystem.
