As the Double Ninth Festival approaches, on October 26, the ancient village of Shantang in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province, collaborated once again with Shantang Village in Langxia Town, Jinshan District, Shanghai. They hosted a family banquet at the scenic Mingyue Shantang area located at their border. Thirty large round tables were set up along the old street, filled with the delicious aroma of steaming dishes, gathering 332 seniors aged 80 and above who came together to share joyous moments. This marks the third consecutive year the two villages have united to organize this event. After the lunch, a vibrant performance titled “Bridge Play: Enjoying High and Low” took place at the Bajizi Library on the old street, featuring classic operatic music including Bajizi storytelling, Yue opera, and Shanghai opera, which elicited enthusiastic applause from the elderly, creating a lively atmosphere. This family banquet is part of the “Our Festival: Double Ninth” theme activities in Langxia Town. It not only promotes the traditional virtues of “respecting, honoring, and loving the elderly” but also strengthens the emotional bonds between villagers from Shanghai and Zhejiang through food and opera, infusing the spirit of integration in the Yangtze River Delta into the smiles of each villager.
