Data Released on Tmall's 11.11 Shopping Festival First Day: Coffee Sales Surge 800%, Supermarkets Grow 670%

Sina Tech reported on October 16 that the 11.11 shopping festival officially kicked off at 8 PM on October 15. As one of the key players promoting "Eat, Drink, Play, and Shop During 11.11," Taobao Flash Sales experienced explosive growth on its first day, with multiple categories seeing over 200% year-on-year increases, and over 70% of cities reporting night snack growth exceeding 200%.

This year's 11.11 event utilizes three new features: "Millions of Free Orders," "50% Off for 88VIP Takeout," and "Taobao Coins Cashback," to fully invigorate the consumption market. On the first day of 11.11, many categories reached new highs in consumption, presenting a significant seasonal growth opportunity for numerous local restaurants and retail small businesses.

In terms of food and beverage consumption, the shopping fervor on the first day of 11.11 led to explosive growth in orders across multiple locations and categories. On October 15, several key categories on Taobao Flash Sales saw substantial year-on-year increases, with coffee orders up 800%, supermarket convenience orders increasing 670%, beverage categories growing 270%, bakery categories rising 250%, and fresh fruits and vegetables up 220%.

From the perspective of urban consumption, nighttime activity was also ignited by the first-day sales of 11.11, as night snack orders on Taobao Flash Sales in 270 cities nationwide surged over 200% year-on-year. Notably, cities like Hohhot, Guiyang, Nanning, Xuzhou, and Zhongshan showcased remarkable growth, with year-on-year increases of 800%, 590%, 490%, 470%, and 430%, respectively, ranking them among the top five cities nationwide in terms of order growth. Key urban districts and densely populated new areas have emerged as major hubs for nighttime consumption, overflowing with local vibrancy.

On the retail side, more brands are capitalizing on Taobao Flash Sales as a core platform for expanding instant retail. The 3C, personal care, and fashion categories also witnessed over 290% year-on-year growth on Taobao Flash Sales yesterday.

As of now, 37,000 brands with 400,000 brand stores have fully launched on Taobao Flash Sales, covering various sectors including digital electronics, beauty and personal care, and home living. Renowned chain brands such as BABA, vivo, Full Cotton Era, Decathlon, Zhaoming, and Moutai have already joined. Consumers can directly select "Same Hour Delivery" when searching for products on Taobao, enjoying expedited delivery.

Sina Tech has learned that on the first day of 11.11 alone, 8 million users participated in activities via the "Flash Order Free" promotion; the order volume for 88VIP members and the number of users in the Taobao Coins channel saw significant increases.
