Cruise Market Makes Strong Comeback, Global Flagships Gather at Wusongkou to Welcome International Visitors

International cruise giants are successively "sailing back" to Shanghai, with Baoshan's Wusongkou once again welcoming guests from across the globe! On the 27th, MSC Cruises' Asian flagship, the MSC Bellissima, berthed carrying nearly four thousand international passengers, including over 2,500 South Korean tourists; closely following, Royal Caribbean's Spectrum of the Seas will also return to the port tomorrow. This marks the arrival of a new wave of recovery for Shanghai's cruise market, as Baoshan全力pushes to create a more attractive "China's Premier Port for Inbound Cruise Tourism." By 2026, the calendar for Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal is already fully booked – ships like the Westerdam, Mein Schiff 6, and Costa Serena will visit again, with MSC's Magnifica's global voyage making a historic inaugural call to Shanghai. With "new and old friends" such as the Oriental Dream and the domestically built first large cruise ship, Adora Magic City, gathering together, the bustling scene of crowds of Chinese and foreign guests has already reappeared.

Leveraging reforms for convenient cross-border tourism and innovation in route models, Baoshan will continue to enhance the operational capacity of the port and enrich the service functions for inbound cruise tourism. As the "pioneer" of this return wave, MSC's Bellissima has keenly captured market trends and innovatively launched a dual-homeport operation model for "Shanghai-Busan." Over a thousand South Korean guests boarded the ship in Busan and will arrive in Baoshan on January 31st for a one-day shore excursion, directly injecting international tourist sources into Shanghai. This year, the ship also plans to operate 29 homeport voyages during peak periods like the Spring Festival and summer/winter vacations, offering passengers convenient visa-free visits to destinations such as Jeju Island and Seoul (Incheon).

Royal Caribbean's Spectrum of the Seas will powerfully take over with its "Spectrum of the Seas Korea Season" theme, operating 60 consecutive voyages from Wusongkou and implementing significant route upgrades: starting in May, it will add Yeosu, South Korea, as a port of call, leading passengers to explore lesser-known coastal charm; exclusively launching the in-depth "Grand Korea Loop" itinerary, integrating urban culture, island scenery, and port experiences in one stop; and featuring a "Qiao Hu's 20th Anniversary" themed voyage, creating a feast of parent-child activities. Leveraging its global distribution network, Royal Caribbean will vigorously promote the "flight + cruise" travel model, with the proportion of foreign passengers on subsequent long-haul routes expected to rise to 80%, further boosting the scale of inbound cruise tourism.

The domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Magic City, is also deeply rooted in Wusongkou. This Spring Festival, it will launch a 6-day, 5-night New Year theme voyage, creating a uniquely charming "Cultural Chinese New Year at Sea." The entire ship will be refreshed with Spring Festival decorations, creating a strong festive atmosphere on New Year's Eve. On the first day of the Lunar New Year, a flag-raising ceremony on the deck to greet the dawn will be arranged, along with traditional handicraft experiences like writing Spring Festival couplets and paper-cutting, transforming the cruise ship into a mobile cultural station at sea. This itinerary connects Seoul (Incheon) and Jeju, achieving a two-way integration of cultural experience and cross-border travel. The simultaneously launched "Adora Travel Club" membership program will, through a points system and exclusive benefits, cultivate a core customer base with refined services.

Route innovation is also receiving a tailwind from supportive policies. With the "Shanghai Municipal Provisions on Promoting the Development of the Cruise Economy" set to take effect on March 1st, Baoshan District is actively promoting policy alignment, focusing on exploring new models such as non-destination sea cruises and multi-port itineraries for foreign cruise ships, continuously enriching "cruise +" consumption scenarios. Simultaneously, by optimizing customs clearance procedures, improving multi-lingual guided tours, and strengthening material supply and service support, Baoshan will continuously enhance port service efficiency, solidify the foundation for building a world-class cruise hub port, and全力shape a preferred destination for inbound cruise tourism with international influence.
