The 2025 Sustainable Global Leaders Conference was held from October 16 to 18 at the Expo Park in Huangpu District, Shanghai. During the dialogue themed “Opportunities and Challenges of the Energy Revolution Driven by Carbon Neutrality,” Xie Xionghui, Executive Director and Vice President of Zijin Mining Group, discussed the sustainable development path of clean technology supply chains from a mining enterprise perspective. He emphasized that the Chinese mining industry has achieved three significant breakthroughs: "green transformation," "win-win international expansion," and "technological leadership," providing essential mineral support for global energy transition.

Xie noted that the opportunities for China’s energy transition over the next five years lie in shifting the energy structure from an "energy density model" to a "metal density model," which will present significant innovation and development opportunities for the mining sector. However, the challenge remains the intensifying competition in the global supply chain, necessitating enhanced core competitiveness through sustainable development.

As a provider of low-carbon green mineral raw materials, he outlined the achievements of China’s mining green transformation: China has established a world-class green mine model with integrated development of mines, tourism, and industry; international institutions have evaluated that "China's mining ESG plans should be recommended globally"; in clean energy utilization, Zijin Mining's clean energy generation has achieved an annual growth rate of 50%; in ecological restoration and resource recycling, over 8 million square meters of vegetation were restored last year, with a water resource recycling rate of 93%, ranking among the top in global mining companies; in environmental regulation, water pollutant emissions are monitored online, with monitoring data synchronized with government regulatory platforms to ensure transparency.

Regarding the overseas development of Chinese mining, Xie emphasized the "win-win" philosophy: promoting local development through "teaching fishing," such as establishing garment workshops and vegetable greenhouses, and providing skills training to enhance local competitiveness. This development also leverages China's strong supply chain and cost control capabilities to ensure profitability in the exploration of challenging mineral resources, earning respect from international peers.

As for the competition in the global clean supply chain, he proposed three core strategies: first, to continually strengthen internal ESG development and build competitive advantages through green and low-carbon practices; second, to enhance international communication and dialogue to eliminate misunderstandings and showcase the sustainable development achievements of Chinese mining; and third, to consolidate global critical mineral supply capabilities by relying on the leading technology of "five-circle integration of ore flow," which encompasses integrated systems in exploration, mining, ore selection, smelting and processing, and ecological environmental protection. At the end of the dialogue, he reiterated that Chinese mining will focus on green, win-win, and technological leadership to continuously enhance its leadership in the global clean supply chain, ensuring reliable mineral support for energy transition.
