Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX:CBA) and Westpac Banking (ASX:WBC, NZE:WBC) are considering offering numberless credit cards as Mastercard aims to reduce fraud incidents in Australia, the Australian Financial Review reported Monday.
In a statement Monday, Mastercard, which works with CBA and WBC, said it will introduce biometric authentication as part of a five-year strategic plan to allow consumers to verify transactions using facial recognition or fingerprints, eliminating the need for manual card entry.
CBA and WBC did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
