Spire has promoted its chief operating officer to lead the company as Chief Executive Steve Lindsey steps down.

The natural-gas company said Friday that Scott Doyle has been appointed president and chief executive and taken a seat on the board.

Spire said in a securities filing that Lindsey has been terminated without cause and resigned from his role on the board.

Lindsey began a leave of absence at the beginning of the year for health-related reasons, and rejoined on Feb. 10.
