Turaco Gold (ASX:TCG) said metallurgical test work at the Afema gold project in the Ivory Coast delivered improved gold extractions across all deposits at the project, according to a Wednesday Australian bourse filing.

Ultra-fine grinding and leaching of low mass recovery flotation concentrate resulted in average overall gold leach extractions of 84% to 90% at the Jonction, Anuiri, and Asupiri deposits.

Optimization test work at the Woulo Woulo deposit shows gold extractions of 87% to 95% with low cyanide consumption from conventional grinding and leaching.

The firm plans to advance metallurgical test work on other emerging deposits, and the test work will be designed to bring the project's metallurgical test work to a prefeasibility study level assessment.

Its shares rose 5% on market close.
