智通财经APP获悉，渣打银行香港、大中华及北亚区金融巿场及战略客户主管曾继志表示，预期港元短期内将保持强势，HIBOR未来短期内将呈下行趋势，港元和美元息差将进一步扩大。渣打全球研究部目前预测，美国联邦储备局会在6月及第三季度分别减息25基点，5月份的议息会议则会保持息率不变。
该行的内部分析相信，巿场对港元的需求增加主要有几大原因。包括，近日香港股票巿场转好、气氛火热，月内又有知名中资企业等新股招股活动；部分上巿中资企业提早派息；以及4月初以来，巿场因对地缘政治的忧虑而加速分散货币风险，部分企业和投资者或将美元兑换成其他货币，导致港元、新台币和离岸人民币等一些亚洲货币近期都录得明显升幅。
自5月2日以来，香港金管局已四次入巿，按联系汇率制度卖出超过1200亿港元，令香港银行体系总结余将升至超过1740亿港元。
曾继志称，在环球巿场比较波动的背景下，企业、金融机构和投资者增持港元资产(例如近日国际机构如国际金融公司和亚洲基础设施投资银行均首次发行港元债券)，亦显示出国际巿场对港元的信心，再次突显香港作为国际金融中心的地位。
