While several top lieutenants of Elon Musk, such as Steve Davis- who ran day-to-day operations for DOGE-have left the government, others remain in senior positions throughout the administration. One is Joe Gebbia, Airbnb co-founder and Tesla board member. Gebbia has been working at the Office of Personnel Management, which acts as the federal government's human resources arm and was one of the first outposts of Musk's team in the earliest days of Trump's administration.
At OPM, Gebbia has been helping to build an online portal for federal retirees to replace one that had relied on paperwork. The project seeks to create a "21st-century retirement system," OPM has said. "This first phase brings all new retirements online and is a necessary step for the second phase, later this summer, which is all about speed," Gebbia said in a recent statement.
