Sportsbook company DraftKings said it was implementing a transaction fee in Illinois, in response to recent and prior sports wagering tax increases implemented by the state legislature.
The company said the 50 cent transaction fee on all mobile and online bets placed in Illinois through DraftKings Sportsbook will take effect Sept. 1.
Jason Robins, chief executive officer and co-founder of DraftKings, said it is disappointing state policymakers have chosen to more than triple the company's tax rate over the past two years, adding "we are very concerned about what this will do to the legal, regulated industry."
DraftKings also said if the legislation were repealed, it will immediately remove the Illinois-specific per wager transaction fee.
