Competition Heats Up In Seattle with New Delta, Alaska Routes -- Market Talk

1755 ET - There's a new airline battle for Seattle brewing. Delta plans to launch service next year from Seattle to Rome and Barcelona, one-upping Alaska Airlines after it announced its own plans to start flying to Rome. Seattle-based Alaska has ambitions to become a global carrier, but Delta, which also has a hub in the city, isn't going to let Alaska's expansion go unchecked. Fliers may be the ultimate winners as Seattle is set to gain flights to two new European markets. (alison.sider@wsj.com; @alyrose)
