July 16 - (The Insurer) - Axis has appointed Moustafa Abdelrahman as senior underwriter and assistant vice president for renewable energy.

With the insurer's focus on providing specialty insurance solutions for customers across Canada, Abdelrahman is Axis' first renewables property underwriter to be based in Toronto.

In his role, Abdelrahman will oversee the growth of the Axis renewable energy portfolio and focus on underwriting construction and operational property risks across clean energy technologies including wind, solar, hydroelectric and battery storage.

He will work closely with brokers, customers and the global energy team in the U.S. and London to tailor solutions for the energy needs of organizations in Canada.

He will report to Sam Walsh, head of North America renewable energy.

Abdelrahman was previously senior analyst for portfolio management at Brookfield Renewable, where he focused on policy placement, acquisition due diligence, and claims review across the renewable energy portfolio. Prior to this, he was in underwriting roles at Intact Insurance, where he specialized in renewable energy risks.

The specialty insurer announced the appointment of Bassem Mesallam as construction underwriter practice leader in its Canada team on Tuesday.
