Meituan Not in a Rush for Planned Brazil Expansion -- Market Talk

0515 GMT - Meituan faces intense competition in the food delivery business in its Chinese home market, but it's in no rush to expand abroad. Chief executive Wang Xing in a post-earnings briefing suggests Meituan is cautious about launching its international Keeta brand in Brazil. Meituan plans to invest $1 billion to bring Keeta to the South American country, but didn't confirm an official launch date. While the company is quite optimistic about Brazil's potential, given that it is among the top food-delivery markets by gross merchandise value, competition is likely "to be quite fierce," says Wang. "We are not in a rush. We want to make sure we do our research [before entering]," he adds. Meituan Wednesday posted weak 2Q earnings, citing a food-delivery price war in China.
