美国参议院的重量级民主党议员敦促特朗普政府暂缓出售房利美和房地美股份的计划，以研究此举对抵押贷款利率的潜在影响。
在周五致联邦住房金融局（FHFA）局长Bill Pulte的一封信中，包括来自马萨诸塞州的伊丽莎白·沃伦在内的一批参议员呼吁FHFA把重点放在降低住房成本上。
“你可以通过暂停任何将两家企业重新私有化的举措，转而研究这种做法对抵押贷款市场可能带来的影响，从而避免增加家庭成本并削弱更广泛住房市场的稳定性，” 信中写道。这封信由沃伦、参议院少数党领袖兼纽约州联邦参议员查克·舒默以及新泽西州联邦参议员Cory Booker共同署名。
他们还敦促Pulte在多项优先事务上取得进展，以缓解高企的住房成本，包括加大对多户型住宅建设的支持。议员们同时批评Pulte试图迫使美联储理事丽莎·库克因涉嫌抵押贷款欺诈而辞职的做法。
“你继续将精力错误地用于对其他美联储官员发起新一轮攻势，而不是不遗余力推动降低美国人民的住房成本，” 这封信写道，“我们敦促你重新排列工作优先级，采取切实行动，让美国人民能够负担得起住房和实现购房梦想。”
