Dave & Buster's Has Failed to Execute Turnaround Strategy, CEO Says -- Market Talk

2250 GMT [Dow Jones]--Dave & Buster's new CEO Tarun Lal says the company's past leadership has had the right strategy in place, but failed to execute it successfully. Lal, who took the top job in July, says during a call with analysts he has identified near-term opportunities for improvement, which align with a previous turnaround plan set in place by interim CEO Kevin Sheehan. The company has pushed too many promotions, overemphasized appetizers on its menu and changed operations too quickly, ignoring team member experience and training, among other issues, Lal said. "We made specific execution missteps that resulted in lack of awareness of our offerings and inconsistent operational execution," he said. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
