x6xt (ASX:FMG) said in the third iteration of its Climate Transition Plan that under its "real zero" target, the firm plans to eliminate the use of fossil fuels as well as scope one and scope two emissions across its Australian terrestrial iron ore operations by 2030, according to a Tuesday report.
The scope one emissions stem mostly from diesel consumption on its operating Australian mines. Its scope three emissions mostly relate to the downstream processing of its iron ore into iron and steel making.
The firm is prioritizing the electrification of its heavy mining equipment to achieve significant early decarbonization, and it is building dedicated renewable energy capacity.
It added that it is working on shipping technology and projects to deliver green ammonia to help the maritime industry decarbonize.
