Canadian Natural Manages 3Q Beat, Though That's Seen as Transient -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Yesterday

0946 ET - Expect Canadian Natural Resources shareholders to look through the energy company's 3Q results toward the upcoming investor day briefing, given there has been little in the way of incremental updates so far, Raymond James analyst Michael Barth says. Average funds from operations for the quarter at C$3.92 billion was 5% ahead of Raymond James forecast and a 10% beat to the consensus expectation, though Barth says the majority of the difference looks to be a function of lower cash taxes than he was modeling. Cash taxes can be transient, so it isn't something the analyst would extrapolate. Canadian Natural's production of 1.62 million barrels of oil equivalent a day was about 1% ahead of what the market expected. (robb.stewart@wsj.com)
