美国航空管理局（Federal Aviation Administration， FAA）下令所有MD-11飞机暂时停飞，此前一架联合包裹服务（United Parcel Service）的货运飞机上周二于肯塔基州路易斯维尔坠毁并造成至少14人死亡。FAA上周六表示，紧急适航指令是针对一起“起飞过程中左侧发动机和吊架脱落”的事故而发布的。该监管机构的命令没有说明可能导致发动机脱落的原因。该命令禁止所有MD-11飞机执飞，直到这些飞机接受检查，且其所有者采用美国航空管理局授权的方法采取纠正措施。联合包裹上周五晚间曾表示，根据该飞机的制造商波音（Boeing）的建议，该公司将停飞MD-11机队。该公司补充说，MD-11飞机约占UPS Airlines机队规模的9%。联邦快递（FedEx）随后表示将效仿此举。目前约有70架MD-11货机在运营中。
