China's PMI Data Suggest Slight Recovery in Construction Activity -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

0342 GMT - China's PMI data suggest construction activity somewhat recovered, likely due to an easing of weather-related disruptions, Capital Economics economist Zichun Huang writes in a note. However, the surveys point to a continued loss in momentum for the wider economy, with slower growth across both manufacturing and services, Huang says. The new orders component edged up, thanks to a jump in the new export orders index, marking its highest level since Liberation Day, she says. This may partly just reflect an improvement in sentiment following the U.S.-China trade "deal" rather than a genuine rebound in external demand, she adds.(jiahui.huang@wsj.com; @ivy_jiahuihuang)
