One person died and nine employees remained unaccounted for, after a chemical tank ruptured at a paper mill run by a unit of Nippon Paper Industries in Longview, Wash.

Nine others, including one firefighter, were injured at Nippon Dynawave Packaging following the industrial incident Tuesday morning, Longview Fire Department said.

"Recovery operations remain complex due to ongoing safety concerns at the site," the fire department said Tuesday, adding that the tank was unstable.

The site will continue to be monitored overnight, but recovery efforts will only resume on Wednesday because of safety concerns.

Officials said there is no direct threat to the surrounding community.
