China's Auto Sales May Slow in July -- Market Talk

0828 GMT - China's July auto sales may slow after front-loaded demand in June, HSBC Global Research analysts write in a note. Chinese passenger-car sales reached 2.1 million units in June, up 18% on year, beating market expectations. The robust growth was likely due to Chinese automakers pushing to hit 1H targets and consumers bringing forward purchases amid expectations of further price adjustments, HSBC says. As July is typically a seasonal trough for sales, June's front-loading could weigh on volumes for upcoming months, the bank says. Given pressure on auto demand and a possible slowdown in pricing competition in the coming months, HSBC prefers resilient auto suppliers over automakers, and likes Fuyao Glass and Horizon Robotics.
