TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung participated in a series of international agendas in New York, United States, on 14-18 July 2025. Spokesperson for Governor Pramono, Chico Hakim, explained that during the five-day visit, Pramono attended high-level forums at the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ). Besides strengthening relations with global partner cities, he also explored various opportunities for collaboration to support Jakarta's development as a sustainable world-class city.
The visit began on 14 July 2025. Pramono attended the opening of the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) at the UNHQ. This annual forum serves as a platform for world leaders to review the achievements and challenges in implementing the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, the forum highlighted the theme of "advancing sustainable, inclusive, science and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind."
The next day, on 15 July 2025, Pramono made a diplomatic visit to the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in New York. He met with Consul General Winanto Adi and engaged in discussions with about 30 Indonesian diaspora and students residing in New York and its surroundings. During this session, Pramono presented Jakarta's development and discussed plans for sister city cooperation between Jakarta and New York, as well as other potential collaborations.
On the same day, Pramono was scheduled to meet with C40 Board President, Michael Bloomberg, to discuss the series of C40 programs in Jakarta as part of Jakarta's efforts to strengthen commitments in the global city network, focusing on climate change issues.
The agenda continued on 16 July at the 8th Local and Regional Governments Forum on the 2030 held at the UNHQ. In this forum, Pramono was one of the speakers in the High-Level Dialogue and SDGs in Review session. The discussion focused on how the involvement of local governments can expedite the achievement of SDGs through localizing policies.
Following the forum, Pramono held two brief bilateral meetings, each with Clara Muzzio, Deputy Mayor of Buenos Aires, and Eckart Wrzner, Mayor of Heidelberg, Germany. In the meeting with Muzzio, they discussed the continuation of the sister city cooperation between Jakarta and Buenos Aires, which began with the signing of the Letter of Intent in 2018.
Later in the day, Pramono held a meeting with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia (PTRI) in New York and the Deputy Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the UN, Hari Prabowo. This meeting discussed the active participation of the Jakarta Provincial Government in international forums and evaluated the implementation of SDGs in Jakarta. Pramono also visited the Central Park Conservancy to study the financing and management strategies of the iconic city park.
On 17 July, Governor Pramono was scheduled to meet with New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The meeting agenda included the signing of a Letter of Intent for cooperation between Jakarta and New York, as well as discussions on the role of metropolitan cities in global dynamics. Additionally, a meeting with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) was scheduled to conduct benchmarking of public transportation systems and the development of transit-oriented areas (TOD).
The visit agenda concluded on 18 July with a study visit at the UNHQ and the observance of Friday prayers at the Islamic Cultural Center of New York (ICCNY). Pramono and the entourage were scheduled to return to Jakarta on 19-20 July 2025. "While abroad, the Governor continued to carry out his daily duties as the regional head. He actively coordinated and communicated as usual with the deputy governor and the Jakarta provincial government officials," said Chico.
