Schindler Holding Ltd. has commissioned a battery energy storage system $(BESS)$ at its campus in Ebikon. The system, supplied by Energy Vault, weighs approximately 45 tons, has a power output of 2.1 megawatts (MW), and a storage capacity of 4.2 megawatt-hours (MWh). According to Schindler, the installation is intended to complement the company's existing solar power generation, which accounts for about 40 percent of its annual electricity consumption. The BESS is integrated into the CKW Flexpool, a virtual power plant operated by the regional energy supplier CKW, to help stabilize the Swiss electricity grid by compensating for fluctuations. The system is reported to have the capacity to supply electricity to up to 8,000 average households for one hour.
