Opening Summary

The Hong Kong market kicked off Thursday on a firm footing, with the Hang Seng Index leaping 1.66% and moving decisively above the 24,000 threshold, while the HSCEI and HSTECH also posted solid early gains. Buying momentum was broad, signalling improved risk appetite after a cautious week.

Heavyweight tech counters provided key support: Tencent rose over 3% on opening bids, while Meituan, Xiaomi and NetEase all advanced around 3% or more. The broader tech complex was mostly in the green, though chipmakers SMIC and Hua Hong Grace slipped, tempering the sector’s overall advance.

On the individual stock front, app-marketing platform Mobvista surged more than 12% to top the gainers list. A cluster of gold names—Zijin Gold International, Lingbao Gold and others—also rallied strongly, reflecting brisk early demand for precious-metal plays. Conversely, a leveraged product tracking SK Hynix skidded 15%, while optical component maker ZJ Innolight and PCB supplier KB Laminates each dropped over 6%.

Theme-wise, the morning belonged to precious metals, with multiple gold miners featuring among the top performers. Airlines found buyers, led by China Eastern Airlines, whereas semiconductor equipment and materials names lagged following early profit-taking. No major new IPOs debuted at the open, leaving existing blue-chip and thematic trades to set the tone for the session.
