JINCHUAN INTL (02362) has announced that in the first half of 2026, its mining operations produced 38,214 tonnes of copper content in the form of electrolytic copper and copper concentrate. This represents a year-on-year increase of approximately 36.9% compared to the 27,904 tonnes produced in the same period of 2025.
The increase was attributed to additional contributions from the Musonoi mine, the group's third operational site in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which began commercial operations in November 2025. This was partially offset by reduced output from the Ruashi mine, due to unstable power supply from the national grid in surrounding areas, declining ore grades, and maintenance and repairs at its acid plant.
In the first half of 2026, the group produced 4,345 tonnes of cobalt content in the form of cobalt hydroxide, compared to just 71 tonnes in the same period of 2025, driven by the additional output from the Musonoi mine. The high cobalt production from Musonoi during the period was attributed to its world-class cobalt grade of approximately 1%, while the average grade at the Ruashi mine has historically been around 0.3%.
During the first half of 2026, the group's mining operations sold 36,083 tonnes of copper content in electrolytic copper and copper concentrate, a year-on-year increase of approximately 38.5% compared to the 26,050 tonnes sold in the same period of 2025. The group sold 349 tonnes of cobalt in the first half of 2026, compared to nil cobalt sales in the same period of 2025. However, the volume of cobalt hydroxide sold was relatively low compared to its production, primarily due to the Musonoi mine still awaiting a cobalt export quota agreement with the DRC government. Local management in the DRC and South Africa are making every effort, in accordance with current government measures, to negotiate with the DRC government to obtain the quota as soon as possible.
